Ladies Charity Day

Posted on

With 96 women from all over the district arriving at Curlewis last Thursday for our annual charity day, we were relieved and happy to finally have good weather conditions for golf.

This year the charity was the Ocean Grove branch of the Disabled Surfers Association, whose goal is to provide all people of any age with any disability an inclusive experience of the rush of riding a wave. This dedicated group of volunteers face considerable costs in providing beach accessible wheelchairs, surfboards and associated costs in running their special event days. So we were thrilled that we raised in excess of $4000 to help them continue their wonderful and heart-warming work.

Apart from the donation included in each entry, funds were raised through the efforts of Lachlan on the 8th hole showing how easy it is to hit the green with a wedge for a fee! Big thanks Lachie!

In addition there was a huge response from the women members who donated produce for the stall – another popular money spinner. But special big thanks are needed for the great donations given by David and Lindsay Sharp, Steve and Karen Brodie, Anne Collis and Veneziano Coffee Roasters. which were offered as prizes in our raffle and silent auction. These were fantastic gifts and we are incredibly grateful to all those generous people. The winners of the raffle were Prize 1 (One Hour lesson with Steve Brodie): Helen Lymer, Prize 2 ($100 Jack Rabbit voucher) : Alan Bartle, Prize 3 ($50 Leura Park Voucher) : Judy Hocking with the remaining 8 bottles of wine going to Matt Nyhof, Helen Hill, Cleat Watson, DI Milnes, Grace McNeil, Judy Stacey, Zara Brooks and Shirley Scott.

The winners of the 4BBB stableford competition on the day were first Leila Stecher and Barb Forsyth, second Pat Malloch and Kath Dellar, and third Pam Ward and Barb Sims.

These days involve a lot of time and effort from our members and Curlewis staff, so the women’s sub committee sincerely thanks all those people who willingly volunteered and assisted to make this day such a success for the players and most importantly our chosen charity.
